Cultural tourism

Assessing the impact of cultural tourism to a regional community requires an understanding of who the key audiences are – and why they come to attractions such as galleries, events, museums and arts precincts.

Our recent approach into evaluating the economic impacts of regional art galleries assessed the regions that visitors came from, and the impact of their direct visitor expenditure on the local community. The results highlight the value of these galleries to cultural tourism in the region with the Tweed Valley Regional Gallery worth an estimated $7.3 million to the local economy.

Other recent research projects with the Lismore Regional Gallery and the Bega Regional Gallery have also shown similar results, and added valuable evidence to their development proposals.
